Taking a pet abroad is not easy, especially in an international move.
My case, believe me, was very heavy since our dog Mossita did not travel with us, she arrived a couple of months later.
We didn't take it with us because we had too many stopovers and 12 suitcases that we had to take out at one of the airports and there was no way, what did I do to take it with me?
I left her at a trusted friend's vet so they could take care of her and they sent me a video of her every day, I paid up front for a month, since I had arranged with the agency that made the papers that I had to leave on a certain date. I paid for the food and took her plate, bed and leash with my friend in Surco, I also left her the last vaccination certificate because to travel they must have that document.
What documents must they have:
1 To know exactly what they are, you should go to the SENASA page in Peru and check, but the ones they asked me for were:
2 Vaccines up to date (certified) in Spanish and translated into English.
3 Internal chip with the code, they ask for it in all countries to track it.
4 Deworming
5 If you pass through the USA you must have the rabies vaccine (for this it seems that you must have a special certificate that is more expensive and takes time since at that time they told me that they had to verify that I had that vaccine by doing a test that cost something like $800 US dollars) My dog did have the vaccine but I didn't send her through the USA because it was going to take longer.
6 The kenel (not cage) according to its weight and size so it was one of the greats.
The other paperwork was taken care of by the agency I hired, the logistics and presentation including the translation, and kennel did it with them. With this you already have an idea that they ask for, what if you find out is that in Canada they do not allow Boxers and another breed that I do not remember, in my case my dog is a mix and it is what is said mixed, crossed or Criolla.
The problem I had with the company is that after a month and a half that we settled in Quebec they did not send my dog, they told me for the next week, the next week passed and they told me the same thing, for this I had left paid in full , since they were clear at the time of the contract that we had to cancel everything, we paid first one part and before leaving another.
This is how 3 weeks passed and I was already upset, my husband too and my daughters, needless to say, they believed that we had left her when she was not like that, they gave me 3 different versions because she did not travel:
1 Being Canada, the cold did not allow them to take pets, it depends on the temperature of the day because they are in the warehouse.
2. That there were no flights because everyone was busy with pets, I know they can't take 2 or 3 animals per trip but I think they can book that in advance.
3. That they were going to negotiate with another airline because it was safer.
We became strong because we were worried, she is a member of our family, when we made the contract they never told us that it would take so long, they assured me that they would send it to me on a date. I threatened to put on the networks, because they promoted that they took their pets to Spain and they went there almost always, I knew people who arrived with their pets in Toronto within the months that we were here, and I complained about that too.
After that they sent me the date because I was boarding one day in the afternoon and arriving the next day at night, I know that when I arrived in Panama they took her out with her leash to urinate because they sent me a video of her, she looked scared, because It was loaded because of its size (14 kilos), but I told myself that it will not be long before it arrives with us.
When you arrive in Canada or Montreal it is not that you go as if I were a passenger, no, they give you the contact so that you can call the customs of the airline in which I travel and you must communicate so that they tell you when you pick it up and beware you must bring the documents of your pet, previous vaccinations, and the order they give you in this case was the company and I took care of having copies and originals of everything (it's like a son).
The customs clearance that is paid in Montreal was apart from what I paid to the company because they bring it to me, it is a payment that applies to all countries.
When we picked her up with a kennel and all my husband whistled and she pricked her ear, I saw her clearly from afar because they brought her in a forklift machine inside the kennel, when we took her out she was happy she went round and round and was very thin, no because no eat because the vet told me that the first few days she didn't eat then yes, we think it was due to depression, when we got into the car she was nervous but then she sat on my lap and fell asleep.
When we arrived at the new house, he urinated in the small garden we have and relieved himself. We already had food, water, a new bed for him. I can tell you that after eating and drinking two plates of water, he climbed into our bed, sighed and slept a lot. until the girls from school arrived.
The truth is that she was already calmer, and two weeks after she arrived, she regained her weight, so we
She says that how skinny she was was because she got depressed.
The good thing is that we are already the 5 and that we have it with us.
Another thing that I must add, is that they do not be surprised if they ask for more than $1200 dollars for the procedures and others in the agencies, it is normal, it is the price that they all give, I am talking about a complete package, it is the average in Peru, depending on the size of the dog it can go up or down, if they have a kenel they lower it (this must comply with IATA parameters).
